Why do women wear tight clothes at gym? Even when they're not slim and good looking?
Do they need to expose their rolls over their bodies as some sort of proof or excuse for being there? I don't want to see it! Why don't they wear some large loose clothing (as I do)?
I only want to see nice looking people when I'm training. If I see fat people spending a lot of time exercising and they're still fat, then I don't want to exercise!

Emptiness
Have you been alone in the office a Friday evening when everybody has left?
Have you opened the fridge and found that it is empty, when you expected at least something eatable in there?
Have you been sitting home alone in front of the TV because you don't want to bother anyone one of those holidays when everybody else is partying ?
Have you been working many years in a company and one day you walk out of there and you know you will never come back?
Have you owned a house that you had many dreams and plans around but left it without fulfilling the dreams?
Have you passed the house where you grew up and realized that you don't know the people who lives there and they have also changed everything?
Have you been walking in an empty city late at night or early in the morning and realized that nobody would hear or pay attention if something happened to you?
Have you written a blog and realized that nobody is reading it?
Just some moments that gives me a feeling of emptiness...I'm sure you have plenty too.

A few advices for girls at work
Some of my experiences over the years... (I could write much more, but these are things that comes into my mind).
First you should find out what people are measured on and what their goals are (spelled our or not). Then expect that to have higher priority than everything else, including common sense, experience, just everything. People also have private goals that you should be aware of.
If you think that people you work with don't know what they're doing, please don't show or tell them what you think. They may have a plan that you don't know about.
Watch out for people who believe they are geniuses or more on less on the same level as Good, never question them in front of others and don't let them understand that you think they are just ordinary people. If you think people are knowledgeable, experienced and helpful, it's a good idea to tell them.
Be aware of people who are unexperienced and might feel insecure. If they do things in a completely stupid way, don't tell them how it should be done because then they will hate you for it. It's better to let them learn by themselves, unless they ask you for help.
If you are insecure and don't know how to do something, find out how people have done it before, and see if that's a good idea to reuse that way.
Make friends, but don't chat too much. Don't make friends with just a few, rather be friendly with everyone if possible.
Make sure you don't make enemies. One way to make enemies is to compete. Competition is likely to happen if you're having exactly the same role as a colleague. Ask your manager to define your role, so it's clear who is doing what, unless you are working together with someone who likes to work together, of course.
Be useful and helpful, but don't help people who don't want help. Some people likes to complain, but they don't want you to help them. Make sure to find which is the case. You should of course help people who wants your help.
Never speak bad about anybody else at work. It's easily done, but it will hurt you one way or another.
Never tell anyone if you have had some kind of problems. They may use it against you (even people you may think are your friends). Treat people as they were your friends, but never trust them 100%.
People like to gossip. Don't tell your manager things you don't want to have spread out, even private stuff. Your manager is likely to tell his or her manager.
Don't trust human resources. It is their job to facilitate the noticing and firing of people. But they are trained to be perceived as being friendly and are normally very good listeners, so be aware! Human resources usually have a file where all kinds of information about you is stored. A file that you're never allowed to see, so you wouldn't know for instance if someone have had any complaints about you.
You may flirt, but in the case you may fall in love make sure to handle it outside work. You should be aware of that people may flirt a lot with you, but most of the time it's just for fun.
If you're young and you believe an older colleague or manager has got a crush on you, it's best to not pretend not to know about it.
If you are older, you should be careful not to flirt with the younger guys. Keep it strictly to business. They may have a bad relation to their mother or sisters, and might not feel comfortable even with female friends, so take it easy and don't even expect to be friends.
When it comes to talking in public, like in large gatherings and meetings, I don't have any good advice. You should be aware of that in some organisations it's positively perceived as strong devotion, but others may find it provocative. Some managers feel responsible for your questions, so make sure to find out the company culture before opening your mouth.
It is good to be visible, but don't send e-mails to people that don't answer. If you for instance send mails to your manager, but you don't get any response, you should write exactly what response or action you would like to see. Many people thinks information is a burden. Make sure to find out what the case is with the people you work with.
Sensitive things should never be written in mails. Keep private communication private by using a private mail address.
Make sure to always use your title, address etc in the end of the mail. Don't expect people to respect what you say if you don't tell them your role. (it's stupid, but it tend to work that way)
Use weekly or monthly reports to show what you have accomplished. Never expect people to already know about it.
Most people are proud to be asked for help and most people are willing to help. Be very generous with compliments and make sure to give people credit.
Make sure you work with something that interests you, it makes it much more fun.

Christmas evening is approaching, or the morning
Why do I want Christmas to be perfect this year? I'm not a perfectionist.
Normally Christmas is for the kids in my family, buying presents in order to make them happy. This year I feel like I'm making Christmas for my parents. To give them the Christmas close to what they would like to have. I'm even trying to lay the table in a way that will make them happy. Maybe I want to show they that they don't need to worry about me.
There is still things that needs to be fixed. But I need to get some sleep too.
Have a nice Christmas!!! Whatever kind of Christmas you happen to have..

Traditional cooking ..
Once upon a time I remember I made a steak when we were having guests. Not some sort of party, just some friends that stayed for dinner. One guy said "I prefer to have lingon-berries together with my steak", (or something. Not something he wanted me to bring to him from the fridge, it was just a comment. I do remember it because I felt like my very nice steak was compared to the lunch that guy used to have at his normal lunch place.
That's one reason to cook something extraordinary, something odd, something unique. But there just so many different places to eat with different cuisines these days. And people travel. If you cook something Japanese, maybe your guests prefer it the way they do it in Japan...
Anyway, at Christmas you're supposed to cook the traditional Christmas food, whatever that is where you live, and in your particular family. So it's very likely that I will hear; what recipe did you use to do this herring, was it grandma's or??
It doesn't really make it exciting, does it? Especially since most of the things I cook I could very easily buy ready made instead...
Except for one dish, that several members of my family can't eat unless it's homemade, due to food allergy. So, that's the only dish I like to cook..that I know will be appreciated!

I'm absolutely not patient enough!
When my firstborn was an infant, my dad told me he was surprised and impressed by my patience. Now, when this girl is a grown up teenager, I would surely need some patience.
My clothes tend to disappear sometimes, because they are being borrowed. I can live with that. I take it as a compliment. But.... Three days before X-mas my daughter takes my only X-mas cookbook and walks away with it, without asking, without even telling me and then of course not answering her phone!!
Parents don't have to be patient when their kids are infants... what was my dad thinking about? Maybe he meant "I'me happy to see that you're patient, because you will need that in the years to come"???

Since it was Lucia some days ago
One of my favorite Lucia songs "A star i shining". In Globen two years ago, performed by Adolf Fredrik music school. I was there listening.

Saab is cult...
My sister used to have an old SAAB. It was a real car. You were sitting upright and it was still plenty of room. Having a very good view from the front seat, not usual for such a small car. I remember the doors and the seats were heavy and felt kind of solid, compared to modern cars.Saab was bought by GM years ago, and now it seems they're closing it down. They tried to make Saab become just any other car. Who would ever try to do the same thing with BMW?
Didn't they understand that Saab is cult? Especially a Spring green one. Just as the one my sister used to drive. Saab owners used to be very loyal, they never changed to another brand, just as Volvo owners used to be.
Now let's see what happens to Volvo.... I happen to drive a Volvo.

Never too late to change, is it?
This is the Idol winner Erik.
I had no idea I liked hard-rock. Usually I don't, unless it's a ballad.
Let's see if the clip works. Last time it was only commercials and no song... :(
By the way, I think web TV is great. Instead of zapping to find something to watch when I want to relax in front of the TV, I can watch the few programs that interests me at my PC. I usually miss the news. Now I can watch the news in the kitchen when I'm cooking. Much better service than having to be on time for some specific show.
Today for instance, I could watch the Lucia procession when I woke up, instead of waking up and finding out that I've already missed it. Since I don't have any small kids anymore I don't get it live at dagis or at school...
I love the Lucia songs. It was when I was listening to a Lucia performance at work many years ago, I discovered that we react different on music. I was standing beside a colleague and commented on a song that made my hair raise on my arms. What do you mean, he said. He had never experienced that, unless it was cold and he was freezing. I've inherited it from my dad. He used to have very short hear that all raised when he liked something which made his head look very funny. We can usually pick winners in music competitions.... Next occasion will be the selection for the Swedish contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Who is running Christmas?
Normally we go to my parents' over Christmas. It's a tradition that we gather there, at their place. This year my mother has stated that she is too tired to fix everything. I offered myself to go there in advance to help her, but that wasn't accepted. So, I invited them all to come to my place and celebrate Christmas instead. Simple as that. I've done it at least once before but at that time we were living in a large house.
Nobody is happy about this arrangement, except my mother. Everybody things it's much better to go to the countryside for a few days and be able to walk in the silent woods in the evening hoping there aren't any bears nearby or to walk on the ice on the lake during the day. Much more space indoors too, and everything just exactly as it used to be every year.
I've started to cook and bake now. I don't mind. It's quit fun. On the positive side is that since I'm "running Christmas " this year is that I will decide what to eat when and so forth. That's what I thought. But my little mother hates the idea of anybody else taking any decisions whatsoever about anything. Not just related to Christmas or cooking. She like to take all decisions and influence everything. Because she knows best. Now she has started to call and tell us what she is planning to bring. One would think that she would ask what I want her to bring..
If she knew I was writing this, she wouldn't come at all. That's what I'm afraid of. If she feels injured she will refuse to come at all and it wouldn't be any real Christmas without the old folks.
Maybe I need to start calling her to tell her what she doesn't need to bring...to make her understand that my fridge will be filled by the time of Christmas Eve. We need to see how similar we are. What she likes to do, I like to do too...

The Robbie boy makes me think about boys
Robbie Williams was in a sitcom. He is one of my favorite singers. I like his songs and his voice.
Seeing him on TV made me realize what I like with his appearance. He looks like a boy! (I'm not saying that he is my type, but he is a bit cute. Although he seems to be a bit childish)
I believe I'm looking for that boy I used to be in love with when I was a little girl or rather a boy that I would have liked as a little girl.
Some men are really focusing on their role as dads. It's great! But I'm not looking for a dad. They talk about their children and then I imagine them together with my kids. I see complications and problems.
Some men say bad things about their wives. They seem to hate women. I'm a woman! If they didn't understand their wives why would they understand me then?
Some men drive motorbikes and believe they are cool. They just make me think about men in large crowds at a football game where people tend to behave like flock animals without any intelligence. Good to have as a companion if there is a nature catastrophe or in a war, I guess.
I'm looking for a grown up boy that this grown up girl could fall in love with. But not really actively, it would be nice if he came in my way...somehow

Idol final
The final is always about taste. Which person do you like best?
I like Erik because he feels like he is my little baby brother, while
it feels like Calle is one of my neighbors baby brother.
Erik seems to be more mature and more professional. Besides he is a
better singer. His "the show must go on" made me shiver.
Btw is there a way to make money om music shivering?
There is only a risk that people don't bother to vote because Erik is
so superior. I might not vote.
The final is slow as one of those discovery channel programs; ten
minutes of material spread out over a complete program. Gäsp....

Walk over
Ha, I just heard that Obama didn't stay in Norway for their dinner and celebration. He went to Denmark to work instead. How funny!
The Nobel celebrations
I listened to most of Obamas speech today when he received the peace prize. It was clever, beautiful and touching. He is a hell of a good speaker. Sounded almost like a preacher. Don't know if the audience understood what he was saying, because their facial expressions were very neutral, they all looked like zeros. And if the rest of the world is watching, doesn't it look strange to see some bored idiots in some special chairs in the front row (the royal highness with wifes etc)? I think it looks nothing but medieval.
Just now is the Nobel dinner on TV. It's always broadcasted. People watch the celebrities eat and dance, all commended by reporters. "Is the finance minister sending text messages during the dinner? Oh no, it can't be true." "Here we can see the princess fiance talking to one of the price winners wifes. The fiance is a lowyer from Djursholm" etc etc. And then some reportage with interviews with the Nobel price winners where they explain what they have done.
All the winners are typically there, except the peace price winner, because he is in Norway where the peace price is delivered and celebrated. I'm sure he has much more fun and interesting conversation there. The Swedish celebration is extremely formal and very traditional.
Anyway, I'm happy to see that there are several of the Nobel price winners are women this year!! That's worth a celebration!

The crowd
My experience is that when you change job you loose a lot of friends. Or rather, it turns out people weren't personal friends after all. When I lost my job I was sad because I would loose the contact I had with a lot of people. But now I know who are my friends. They aren't many, but good.
If I would have made a career and continuously increased my status, then I wouldn't know, because it's only when you get problems you can tell who supports you and who's just around to look good.. or whatever reason.
I'll try to remember that if I become rich and famous one day...

OK. Last blog: Of course the proposal was not regarding the climate
issue but rather about preventing spreading of dangerous substances.

Anyway the problem seems to be that we are too many on this earth.

The question of the year, the climate
We can only discuss one issue at the time. For the moment it is the climate.
The ices are already melting, I know. That's scary.. ..and all disasters that our children might experience. I know this is serious.
I remember when the future depended on if I turned off the light when I left a room or not. I took that seriously, because I was a child then. I remember there were stickers on every button "turn off the light". Then a couple of years later the stickers were gone. Why?
I also remember when the trees were dying. That was scary. I've seen some trees that didn't look very well so I think it was true. I don't know what happened to those trees, did they recover? Not to mention the seas and the rare animals. A lot to worry about...
It seems the Swedish environment minister Andreas Carlgren knows what to do about the climate. I've read that he will stop the "environmental crooks" that are sending old computers, cars, fridges and mobile phones to poor countries.
OK, I agree that old fridges containing freon should be destroyed here, but how about old cars and mobile phones? If we have been running stinky old cars for about 50 years, why shouldn't some poor person be able to run that old car a bit more? And an old mobile phone could mean the world to a poor person. I think it's like preventing a starving person to eat the leftovers from your plate, because you think the food isn't healthy enough and you feel responsible for the health in the world.
Don't misunderstand me, I do think the climate is important. I just hope they concentrate on the most important things and don't do stupid mistakes. They are talking about sending money from rich countries to poor countries in order to improve the environment.
I've noted that Chinese banks, I mean Chinese companies, seems to afford to buy Swedish companies, because we can't afford to run them. But the environment in China is terrible, so it can't just be a question about money, can it? I hope it's not about sending money between countries, isn't it about funding certain projects, isn't it??

But the environment in China is terrible, so it can't just be a question about money, can it? I hope it's not about sending money between countries, isn't it about funding certain projects, isn't it??

How to succeed or at least get somewhere
It was kind of funny the other day to hear a world champion describe herself almost as I would describe myself. "If someone tells me I can't do something, it really makes me want to do it".
The difference is that she has succeded better than she ever though she would do and I haven't had any success at all....
Everybody thought they understood why she had been successful. Hard work and following a certain schedule, yes, everybody agreed that they themselves had not been working hard enough. I didn't think they were listening if they came to that conclusion. Anyone can understand that hard work is required if you want to succeed in what you do.
She pointed out that having a goal was more important than following a specific plan. On the contrary, it was her and her crew members ability to adopt to whatever happened that made them successful. They were trained to not analyse in too much detail what went wrong but focus on making the most of the possibilities they had at hand to reach their goal. That's how they won!
(this was mailed from my mobile, that's why it looked terrible)

Working ant or outcast hermit...
I meet lots of people who have lost their jobs. Isn't it strange how we are? As long as we have got a defined task and we believe that we know what tomorrow looks like, then we just complain a little but most of the time we're fine. But as soon as we don't have any defined task any longer, and we're unsure about tomorrow, then we get worried. Some of us can't sleep and many feel worthless one way or another.
To me it looks like humans are like ants, living in large hills, with some society were everybody has a specific task. Maybe that's in our genes. That's the only way we know how to live, unless one become outcast or living as some lonely hermit. Maybe that's what we are afraid of? That would explain a lot.

Tonights TV issues. Does Bert vote?
I would like to know who is voting in Idol. Is it the people or is it Bert Carlsson who is planning to make some boy band or some country band?
Calle did a great "walking in Memphis" and everybody might not like hard rock like Erik was singing, but still, it is very strange how Calle could get most of the votes. It was a bit cruel of the jury to let him sing "do you think I'm sexy". He is as sexy as a cute puppy.
I was wondering about the voting when that other guy, Eddie, had to sing twice week ater week some time age. Looked very much arranged to me, to get more airtime. Eddie always looked very self confident, as if he knew that Bert was investing in automatic votes for him. Calle also looked self confident today, talking about "this could go all the way". It could not! It was impossible. I don't vote unless it is absolutely necessary. Maybe others think the same as I do, why should I give my money to some stupid TV-show... could be one reason. It wasn't even exciting. It was obvious that Calle would loose.
Erik was singing hard rock so I even I liked it. (I've never understood the beauty of hard rock before).
Tove was performing one of my personal favorites "the greatest love of all" beautifully. I'm pretty sure they both have a large audience. Calle should have been number five according to me, but now is number one! Very strange indeed.
Shakira was visiting Skavlan, just after Idol. She talked about some schools she is founding in poor areas of Colombia. She also said "a woman is like a diamond with several facets, she can have a short skirt, but she knows what she is talking about". She had a short skirt...

To disappear or be happy..
Every now and then it feels like people would be happy if I just disappeared. Now my neighbors give me that feeling too, after I've changed my standpoint during the past half year regarding an economical matter in the house... Maybe I could emigrate to the moon or something. Haven't they found water there?
No, why should I make idiots happy by disappearing?! Maybe I'll start practicing on my grand piano during the whole weekend instead...
Yes! That will make ME happy!

I hate Saab and Electrolux commercials on web pages
I'm getting crazy! Trying to read on a webpage when the text is moved to the left in front of my eyes. Just to be able to show some stupid ad from the above mentioned companies.
OK. I've seen it now. I delete the ad, and move the window so I can continue reading.
Then, it happens again! And again.
The last days this has happened to me on different webpages. What idiotic agency is proposing such commercial? I hate it, I don't want any text to disappear in front of my eyes even once. I will definitely never buy any of those brands!

Which Bagge in Idol is really a cow?
I thought they had removed Anders Bagge from the show after he happened to said Idol should be closed down, as he did a few weeks ago. Apparently not. Don't know who writes the script, but I think letting him start the show by saying that he himself is charming was a mistake! I do not find him charming at all. Rather spoiled and unprofessional, if you ask me. Look at his face when he delivers some nasty comment as he did today. Not charming at all!
To hear a jury member call his colleague and exwife "sow" (or "cow") as he did today, is just too much. Maybe they use to call each other such names, due to their last name.. I don't care. It didn't sound nice at all. Anders Bagge is not acting as a professional jury member! How can the international Idol brand owners allow him on the show...?

I regret staying home
I try to ask people; what would regret you hadn't done if you were me, a few years from now?
I asked someone who have some experience and have seen others in my situation. She answered "you might regret not finding out what you really want to do".
Always when I ask something, I tend to realize the answer myself, because I always have an answer when people ask me something.
I know what I regret when I look back today.
I regret not taking all opportunities. Opportunities at work, when I was unsure of my abilities, and didn't dare. Sometimes I took opportunities but didn't succeed, but that's easier to live with. One tend to learn thing even from mistakes, just like people say. ... I regret not taking opportunities in my private life too, to do new things, meet new people or to travel to new places.
So what did I do? I stayed home by the family too much when I was young. Later I stayed too long in some of my relations. And then I stayed home with my kids and felt responsible when being single, instead of going out.
My answer to myself would be; take care about the time you have and enjoy yourself, take care about relations with other people, take care about your health, take care about the opportunities you see.. and don't stay home!
Now I'm just about to fix my home for Advent, and make it tidy and Christmas like!
Maybe I like to be at home?!

Coaching styles
I am very fortunate to get professional coaching. The coaches tend to say things like "you must..", "you should...", "you can't...".
Today I met another coach who listened and asked questions.
Suddenly I got a lot of inspiration!

Vaccination to almost grown up children...
Finally, there was an opportunity to get one of my children vaccinated since children should be prioritized and he wouldn't get it at his school.
By the way, my children are growing up. Having a daughter who cooks the dinner as she likes to have it, who is smart and has recently learned most subjects at schools (knows everything) puts some pressure on me. Or rather offloads me, all depending on how you see it. I just have to get used to it. Very grown up, but not exactly every day.. But who is grown up every day?
My son who used to be my little baby is now getting a downy thin mustache. I just need to stop looking at it.. Maybe they think, oh mum is starting to get some wrinkles at the eyes, better not stare at them!...? No, they wouldn't even notice...

Skavlan puts awquard questions on family members deaths
Unfortunately there is a another interesting show at the same time as Idol. It is a sitcom run by a Norwegian guy called Skavlan. It's a great show because the guests are always very interesting, and there is also a discussion among the guests. Interesting subjects too.
What I don't like is how they treat people.
For instance when the famous football player Henke Larsson was there, Skavlan gave him the question "how did it feel to get the news about your brother's death just after a football game?". And then the camera was zooming into Henkes face. How awkward isn't that?
Tonight the famous comedian Hasse Alfredsson and his son were invited. Skavlan said "there was also a third son, in the family, who died". You could tell that they were not prepared to talk about that at all. Hasse told some story which saved his son from getting the camera up in his face at that moment.
When Malin Åkerlund was a guest Skavlan made her look stupid since she had obvious problems to understand his Norwegian, while he himself doesn't understand his Swedish guests (not when they make jokes). He didn't understand Hasse Alfredsson very well, nor my favorite Sissela Kyle.
Tonight he had also some American guests, and it seems he understands English pretty well. First guest was a man who had been sitting in jail waiting to be killed for twenty years although he was innocent (in the US). Interesting. To us that sounds like a completely different world.
Then finally the country singer Toby Keith, who has been invited to sing in Oslo at the peace price ceremony this year, although he is known to be pro certain wars. Toby Keith was wearing his cowboy hat covering half of his face, which wasn't at all necessary, since he didn't even get any awquard questions on death in his family as several of the other guests....

Tears for what?
Today's Idol made me shred a tear or two. When every participant was singing to a parent or to someone else he or she cared about, it became quite touching. Especially Reza who was singing to her mother, living far away in her home country.
It was a funeral for one of my ex colleagues and friends today. I didn't go, although I felt like hugging them. I wasn't that close so I would belong there. I knew the Company was going to be represented by some managers and a separate memorial was planned for the colleagues at the office. Do you ever think about who would come to your funeral if you would die just now? That guy probably knew people that aren't aware of what has happened...

My old stationary PC
I'm stubborn enough to continue to use the old home PC I paid a fortune for years ago. Yesterday I used different techniques to try to speed it up and then tried to reduce the noise by changing the power supply (just to give you an idea of what I'm up to). My children thought I had gone crazy when they found me on the kitchen floor using a saw in the PC.
People tell me I need a man. Well, most men don't change power supplies in their PCs, trust me!

Scandal. Teachers get vaccine instead of pupuls in Stockholm schools.
A Stockholm school had ordered vaccine for their pupils. The official plan was to start with the smallest kids. Unfortunately there is not enough vaccine for all the pupils in the school, since the teachers have prioritized themselves. Isn't that a scandal???

Today's Idol show was great
The show was great today. How come even the jury seemed more professional than usual? Only the sport commentator has not yet understood that he in his role should be unbiased and not push for his favorites (Eddie and Calle). Is it for example necessary to tell the audience that it's up to them if they want to vote for both Calle and Marriette or only for one of them? Isn't that obvious?
It seems mostly the girls make me shiver, but all the girls still in the show are really great singers. Both Reza, Tove and Marriette gave me the shiver (need to find out if that´s correct English). They were really good. And I like the music too.
The duets were interesting. Eddie brought down Reza since he sang out of tune as usual, and it seemed she was holding back maybe from courtesy to avoid his voice from drowning.
Marriette gave Calle some of her professional dignity and they were really great together.
I agree with the jury who calls Tove and Erik stars. Even an middleage women like me loves them.

Looking for the key to unlock the job door
My feeling is that I've to go through a door. A big massive door. And just like in one of those "prisoners at the fort" competitions at TV that I never watch, there is no way around it.
If I'm going to pay my bills in the future, which is a prerequisite to live as I do, with a standard that I'm used to, I need to learn how to unlock that !"#¤%&/(* door.
To have some basic understanding of marketing isn't enough, in order to find the code or the key, I need to become a sales person. If I don't become a sales person who can sell myself I won't get a job. Unless I find the backdoor and it's unlocked...

Small scale networking
By the way, I try to network. In Stockholm if you see someone you know a little, it is not obvious that you talk to that person. You might, you might not. That's the Stockholm way.
These days I don't let anyone that I recognize pass me, at public transportation or on the street or anywhere without talking to that person, letting them know I'm looking for a job.
The other day I happened to meet a guy in the basement who was repairing something. You can not imagine who much interesting information I got while he was trying to make the reparation (slightly disturbed by someone chatting...). To me the basement meeting was more informative than attending a special seminar!

Modern ways of sorting job applicants
Sweden must be a country with a limited number of companies, since there are only about 9 million inhabitants. Still there are hundreds of companies that provide job databases, and if you are looking for a job you should be register in every database. Of course you have written an CV and you add a personal letter on every job you apply for. But you also have to use electronic tools to rewrite your cv every time you register in a new database, at a headhunter or apply for a job!
The first thing you have to fill in is you age, your gender, your marital status and where you live etc. Then you have to rewrite every detail of your cv, like every job you have had and projects and educations etc!
Nowadays the human resource department can easily sort the applicants that they want to have for an interview, and don't need to spend any time at all on the rest.
Do you think they start by setting an age span? But marital status (Married, divorced, single, widow)why do they need that??
I'm so surprised that aren't asking for race, religion and political views as well. Oh, no that's forbidden. Even in Sweden...
When will it be forbidden to automatically sort on age, gender, marital status, where you live and how old your education is?

I hate when people are fooled by bullshit
Today I met a lot of creative people, it's always cool to meet creative people.
But I also met two losers who were going to live on pyramid selling. Wasn't it kind of me to tell them that they were fooled and probably had bought some marketing flummery. "But all companies are like pyramids", they told me, "the ones at the top earn much more than the ones at the bottom". Sure, but if you work in a normal company you know what terms you have, what salary you will get etc, you're normally not trying to convey your friends to join and pretend they will get cured or rich or something and most important of all, you don't need to pay a fortune for using the shit yourself.
I also told them there were investigations made my the National Food Administration that proved that what they had learned from some friends were just bullshit. Wasn't that kind of me? I didn't tell them in front of a lot of other people..

No flue vaccine this week, not even for kids
We were too late. This week there is no vaccine to get anywhere. The reason is that schools and children have been prioritized. Fine. But my kids school has decided not to vaccinate (it's a "free"-school so it's up to the headmaster) and the childrens' care (BVC) only vaccinate kids up to the age of six. So my children won't get any.
There is a web page where I can see where they have got vaccine. Some special clinics.
So, what happens if anyone get sick? In other countries I believe people have got medicine when they got sick, to prevent serious illness. In Sweden, health government has decided that testing sick people are too expensive and giving medicine is not necessary unless you are about to die. So parents who call the hospitals are told to stay home with their sick children until it is really "serious".
If my child get sick I hope it's not non-office-hours, because nobody can stop me for getting the medicine. At non-office-hours or if it's really serious, people have to sit and wait for 5-6 hours among other sick people to see a doctor in Stockholm. But it's the same for most people. You can only be sure to get medicine, help or whatever you need if you have a doctor in the family or as a close friend. A few people might have some private insurances too. But it's not that common. Yet. But it sure will be in the future.

Las Vegas in Idol
Tove is a charm. Everone must love her.
Reza is a pro! Her interpretation of "New York" was cool and truly professional.
I think Eddie was slightly off tune, but sometimes it seems the jury doesn't mention such things, or is it something wrong with my ears maybe?
Erika is slightly better than what the jury tells her. Every time.
Mariette is making a very good performance every time. Don't know why the guys in the jury don't like her. Don't they think they would make money on records made by her?
Calle, well they say he can sing. He is doing his best, but it's a bit boring to me.
Erik gives me the shiver every time. Feeling is all that matters, and he's got that.
Rabih was singing something he probably has sung before. No challenge and no success.
I like the Las Vegas theme. It makes me think back when I was a child and there was that kind of music on the radio, typically on the weekends. Long time ago.

Found a brilliant Swedish book.. see you later...
There is nothing like reading a Swedish book written by a knowledgeable writer in an area which interests you. It is not a thick brick like American books tend to be. It's facts, condensed, not using more words than necessary. Just explaining enough to make it clear. Expecting intelligent readers.
I'm sure more people in the world would read books if some writers weren't payed per word ..

Sweden is a lawless country since we consider ourselves more Christian than others
In Sweden a young man can deliberately kill a young woman and get away with it. He will only have to spend less than two years in some special custody. He was only a childish child so we look upon it with forgiveness. We forgive everyone in this country, whatever the person has done. Isn't that very human?
The short sad story: A boy is in love with a girl. He kisses another girl and the first girl get furious (my guess). She tells him he must kill the girl he kissed. She tells him how and when he should do it. He goes ahead and kills her. They are both convicted to one year and eight months. They are 16 years old and the girl was 15 when she was killed. Yes, they are kids, but if you are grown up you get maximum ten years and are probably released after five (I believe). Five years is not a lifetime.
There was another case where a young man was kicked to death. The ones who did it are out on the streets after one year. If you kill a wolf you get longer punishment.
What is the message to the young criminals? They they don't need to be afraid to kill someone?
A human life is worth nothing here if you are a victim. (Should I mention that the parents of the killed girl get 60000 SEK, and not 6 millions). Your life is only very valuable if you are the commiter of the crime. That is how we interpret the Christian forgiveness in this country.
What will the consequences be when criminals will gather here since the country is perceived as lawless?

What is the freak bimbo doing in Tinas show?
What are these freak-blondes doing all over the TV these days? It seems not even the chef Tina, can have a show without hosting an operated bimbo in the kitchen, who is waving the knife like a kid who may hold it for the first time.
Why isn't there a single TV-show without a blond with operated lips, nose, breast and you don't want to know what... Any little girl who watch TV will surely notice that a lot of women have strangely operated lips, and arms slim as noodles.
What kind of message is that to our daughters? If you want to go anywhere in the world and come from Sweden, you should do all sorts of operations and behave like an idiot and go for beauty contests!? I'm sure Victoria Silvstedt is a very talented and hardworking model/actress/singer or whatever she is. Fine. Give her TV time when men are watching, late at night.. not in shows where young girls and young women are in the audience!
Tina is a good chef, a very natural person and good looking too. She serves as a good example for any young girl. Why destroy her show by inviting a 35-year old freak bimbo?

A special picture
Almost a week ago, someone asked me "How about YOU?", "How are you doing?"
I quickly answered "I'm fine. No problem."
Then I suddenly saw this picture in front on me, where I'm standing on a running track, holding a baton in my hand. I felt like someone was pointing out to me that it was no way I could stay there. I was fortunate enough to have a baton, and the opportunity to run. Go on and run girl.
Life is waiting ahead..

Some more thoughts on the Swedish bad boy
Maybe I should explain for those who has never heard about this journalist and writer (Jan Guillou), that he is known to be quite mean in all public discussions. He is smart, with a rich vocabulary and a rhetoric experience that probably scares the shit out of people since he can easily make them look very bad.
He was recently mocking another writer who was positive to the idea of having books on internet, by pointing out that his colleague didn't sell as many books (as he does himself). He has also said about one of his old intelligent friends, that he only could socialize with new-rich people, since he didn't have good enough manners (as he has himself, with his upper-class background). Please note that this what he is saying about a friend...
Since he comes across as mean (I don't know him in person and can only refer to what is written about him and what he has written himself) I find it amusing to hear him explain his agent experience with a foreign state as childish, naif and simpleminded. Why should we believe that he didn't know what he was doing?
But honestly, hasn't he proven to be quite childish, naif and simpleminded also regarding other topics during the years?

A bad boy on today's headline
All countries have their bad boys. Controversial individuals that some people hate but others look up to, because they know what the public opinion likes to hear, and use that in order to be very arrogant and rude in a way others never dare to be. They also tend to believe that they are smarter than everyone else. One example is the Swedish journalist and writer Jan Guillou and another example is Berlusconi in Italy.
Guillou was involved in revealing some secret organization in the 70-ties. A big scandal. Since then he has been all over the place, as a provocateur and the one who always wants to get the last word in any public discussion.
Very funny is that he seems to hate the fact that he is now old and part of the establishment and he doesn't provoke people that much any longer. Therefor he is very rude especially to young provocative women. Another funny thing is that he seems to hate feminists, but we all know that if he would have been a woman he would have been the worst feminist of all.
He is one of the most read Swedish writers. That fact surprises me because I've got a lot of books, but not a single one written by him. He has been very much into writing about secret agents and such things. He has also written a very violent book about his childhood (it has been filmed too, as many of his books). I believe his book could inspire bullying in schools, just as his spy novels could inspire macho types to become criminals or violent cops. I'm not much into reading violent books where guns play an important role and where there are no interesting female portraits. I rather read international bestsellers or classics, where there isn't only exciting stories but also some credible human beings.
Now it seems this guy was a Russian spy for many years before he became known! (today's headline in Expressen) Is anyone really surprised?
This will give him more publicity, he will sell more books and become even richer. What does he do with all his money, after he has been spending a lot on expensive wines and other luxuries? Does he keep them? I hardly believe he would give them away to starving children, rather to... well, who knows....??

Encouraging songs
I'm quite fond of this text, but it only works as sing-along, otherwise it feels like "ok, good for you". My only objection is "living my life for me". I'm not sure that's the right receipt.
An old classic I always liked is this one. I like the idea of not giving up on dreams.
But there is quite of lot of climbing to do and streams to forge. Since she uses "you" it feels like she is giving some advice to keep on moving and not give up!
"Last all you life" is also a bit optimistic isn't it? Especially is the life is devoted to climbing and forging...
I like it with the old nun singing as in the original from Sound of Music, but this one is quite emotional too.. (my advice is to stop when they start talking...)
I remember when my mother brought us to the movies to see Sound of Music..
Idol feedback
Can't help myself from writing some more on the Idol subject. I didn't understand why the jury had some fireworks this time, that took away the interest from the music. Since the audience hate when any of their favorites have to leave the show, a lack of firework will result in a lot of extra votes for that person. Isn't that what you call contra-productive?
It is also annoying how the sport commentator is favoring some of the artists, especially some of the guys. Try to like the young girls too, will you?
I believe we will soon see Nicklas, who had to leave the show, in some boy band soon. He looked like every mother-in-laws dream and seemed well behaved and nice. Those guys are normally quite successful (since both mothers and daughters like them) especially if they can sing too, and this guy could sing.
The advice for the artist who has to sing again is not to give up. One of them is usually singing with a "this is the last time I perform in Idol" look on the face, while the other one is singing with "it's good for my career to get even more minutes on the TV screen" look on his face. Who looks like a winner in such a duel??

Idol and the Swedish music phenomenon
Some people are born into the music industry, with the right genes, the right contacts and the right education. But most people aren't.
I believe one of the reasons Sweden has such a lot of good musicians, and such a successful music industry, is that there has been a great music education for kids since many many years in this country. I'm talking about the communal music school, where you take lessons after school. The communal musical school and all the courses that were subsidized made it possible for most kids to such training.
Many of those teachers have now lost their jobs. That happened before the financial crisis, it's all political. So I guess in the future, we won't have the same musical industry. If there is no diversification, you don't get all the talents.
Talking about talents, I think the Idol competitors this year keep an high standard. Tonight Mariette, Tove and also Nichlas gave me a bit of shivering when listening. Erik is also a favorite.

I'm no paparazzi!
This is a small town, Stockholm. I was just buying some vanilla custard, and tried to hear what a friend of mine was saying on my i-phone, when there was this man who talked really loud on his mobile. I couldn't hear what my friend was talking about, and not only due to the i-phone, but rather this loud speaking person!
The shop was more or less empty apart from a sudden crowd of well dressed gentlemen just in front of the dairies, where I was trying to find my custard.
Suddenly I realized that the guy who destroyed my phone conversation was Sweden's coming prince, the one who is going to marry the crown princess! The well dressed gentlemen that looked suspiciously at me and my phone were his body-guards!
For a second I was thinking why not turn around and take a photo or video of him. But no, that's for paparazzi's, not for me. If he wants to buy some cream next to me, he is welcome. He's just an ordinary guy.
But I don't agree with my friend who told me I should have made my vanilla custard myself. Then I wouldn't have mingled with the almost Royal people in front of the dairies, would I?

To miss opportunities
The worst thing is to be frightened, isn't it?
When starting a relation one can not be too afraid to be hurt.
When arranging a party one can not expect it to be too boring.
When giving birth one can not be too afraid of the pain.
When living one can not be too afraid of death.
When applying for a job, one can not fear not being able to manage it.
When making a jump one can not hesitate at all.
To be afraid is to miss opportunities in life.
To miss opportunities is a shame, isn't it?

Does a man only need an expensive watch?
I'm amazed. What different things we need. I happened to get a magazine for women but also a magazine for men. I wasn't so surprised by the female magazine. I already know that we need different sorts of makeup and lots of expensive clothes, and sexy underwear, and perfume, and cool boots and exclusive bags and fancy party outfit and causal weekend clothes and not to mention lots of treatment for our hair.
I had no idea that men only need an expensive watch and new underwear to be happy, and maybe a suit. According to the advertisers.

Are you crazy about some team? Why?
Sport fans seem to forget that sport is all about playing and having fun. It seems they think "I've grown up loving this football team, so the label is part of my personality".
Sometimes I believe some people care more about sport results, than they care about their relatives.
Maybe it's in our genes, to love the place where we come from (like the Salmon does). Since there aren't much small places and villages any longer, maybe people stick all their lives to some football or hockey team instead.

How to get slim, rich and happy without breaking even
There is a wild sales pyramid ongoing in houses close to you. Again. I feel that either I'm no business woman or everyone else come from another planet. Let me explain.
First you buy a pretty large amount of something that happens to be twice as expensive as in the shop. You do that because of two reasons, the first is that you will get slim and healthy and the second is that you will get rich. Isn't that marvelous?
How do you know that you will get slim and healthy? Because some people say so. Do they have any proofs?
Yes, first there is someone who has experienced it, himself. But we are not allowed to check the proofs, we are supposed to believe his word for it. But he or she looks nice, why should anyone lie to us?
Then there are also scientific proofs made by some University somewhere, or some famous doctors or some health guru. Of course you believe in authorities, don't you? Nobody seems to question if the scientific result was especially relevant for this product, or if it is as relevant for any similar product you can buy in the store. But why should they omit such information?
Of course there is also some new ingredient that we've never heard about before that is very very healthy. They show a table with figures and compare to some other healthy things we know. The figures convinces you that it is really true. Antioxidants is the magic word. The unit for measuring this healthiness is some unknown unit per weight. We don't know the assumptions for the comparison, like if the ingredients were all dry, or if they were at all similar or comparable. (This is really the most important proof for the healthiness of the ingredients and the product as such). But why shouldn't they be honest about that?
Sometimes the proof can be demonstrated. Or there is someone bringing some witness from using a machine that shows that the antioxidants increase in your body when you eat this healthy thing. I have seen that machine. It measures how orange your skin is, which seems to be considered a good measurement on how much healthy antioxidants you have eaten. I don't believe that the level of carotene (orange) you have in your skin is a trustworthy measurement unless you only want to measure how much carrots you have eaten. Besides, we didn't see the machine, we only heard someone talking about it, without any proofs. But, why should he lie about it?
The product they are selling is twice as expensive as in any normal shop. I have to pay a fortune for a large box, if I want to "join". Then I have the chance of becoming rich. There are always some very rich, healthy and successful people that live abroad and don't have to work any more to show up as witnesses. You want to become one of them, don't you? You can also become rich! Don't you want to become rich?
In all of these pyramid programs it seems you have to move quickly. There is always something new that has happened. Or the idea is new. Or the pyramid has just started. You are almost on the top! The pyramid seems to be brand new during half a year, at least. When you have joined you have to get new people into the game. Quickly. Many people. Otherwise you will not get rich. That is the whole idea. AND YOU HAVE TO KEEP BUYING YOURSELF
My problem is that I don't want to pay a lot of money for something I can buy in the store. I don't want to try to make my friends buy things from me, that is twice as expensive as in the shop. I don't believe in what any of these people are saying. Because they are good marketeers. Because they make people believe they heard something they didn't hear. Because people trust what people tell them. Why should they lie or not be 100% honest?
There is a very simple answer to that. Because they want me to join, so they can become rich.
Either I'm no business woman, or everyone else are stupid. I think people should ask themselves, what will this cost me? When will I reach break-even? Bu they don't.
Isn't that something we should learn at school, before getting rich, you have to break even?!
(If those people find me and give me problems, you know I was telling the truth; they do anything to get rich..)

I love this toy, and the telecom industry should be happy
First I couldn't resist an i-phone when my old phone lost its buttons. I need the GPS, the maps, the compass and to check mails constantly. I have got a subscription with free surfing, and since I've not yet filled my i-phone with all the music I've already got, I watch YouTube on the subway instead. To fit whatever mood I'm in for the moment.
People like me are boosting the telecom industry.

The old teacher's comment
Some days ago I ran into a teacher from school who used to know my family. She said "Of course you can have your company if you want, you are a "(my last name)".
That made me completely stunned. We don't run companies in my family! And I'm not from some fancy rich family. Her comment didn't make sense to me. Yet, it felt like it was more of a reflection, than she just wanted to say something nice.
Since then I've been trying to see things from her point of view. We kids were extremely ambitious at school, that's true. Maybe she had noted that we didn't have a tradition to study, but yet we all went to University or High School and got good jobs. Or maybe she was thinking of my mother who is a strong woman, and tend to realize whatever ideas she has got.
So now I'm thinking, I was bright at school and people tell me I'm like my strong mother. Old teachers aren't stupid.

Overflow of facts
I really understand why young people are stressed and depressed. Not only do they have to watch their bodies transform from something familiar to something else, and they have to wait many years to see whether their bodies will end up looking like a movie star or a some ugly member of the family.
They also have to watch their middle aged parents, who can't be funny to watch too closely. Annoyed over their aging bodies and how they run out of time, they frenetically try to sport like idiots, work like idiots or change family or something else completely immature.
They also have to be aware of all the facts. I'm not talking about YouTube and Wikipedia. I'm talking about homework. Who are the most knowledgeable when it comes to facts and details about climate crises, political experiments and not to mention our completely insane history.
Or maybe it is just me. I've just studied humanities or social studies of whatever it's call together with my son. It's kind of depressing to read about all the slum, poverty and unemployment in the world, and how the industry has moved from Europe and US to Asia and Latin America. And the pollution. I'm not sure I like to be reminded about all the global facts.
One can always watch TV or get drunk or become some sort of sports fan.

Cool Kyle meets garden Santa Claus
Sissela Kyle is one of my favorites. She is cool. She is an actress and comedienne. That was all I knew about her before tonight.
Ingvar Oldsberg is a TV reporter that I never look at. If he is on, I switch channel immediately. He used to be in those sports shows where they talk forever about nothing. I never watch those unless I've fallen asleep, and in that case he would give me nightmares. Imagine a person with a head that looks like a football, who is bold, laud and with a smile and the sensitivity of one of those garden Santa Claus. I think old people like him, because he speaks out clear and laud and laughs at his own jokes. I am not deaf yet, and he has never been funny.
Sissela was a guest at his talkshow "here is your life" tonight. She saved the show for him, even though he behaved like an elephant in a glass shop. She talked to him nice and slowly, putting a hand on his arm and joking with him in a warm way. Isn't that super professional?
One strange thing was that he implied that she was gay through the whole show, until her husband (called partner) turned up in the very end. Isn't that rude? She even had to explain why she had participated in some pride show. "I'm not afraid of them" was her answer.
I would be afraid if I met Ingvar Oldsberg in my garden.

Squareheaded people everywhere
Yesterday I joined the own company fair. There were lots of people encouraging others to start their own companies. They offered professional coaching. I found a person who was a recommended coach, and I told her I had a particular idea I wanted to discuss and get some feedback on. I found her when she had nobody else to talk to but me. "You can't just have an idea" she told me. You go home and make a business plan and a budget, then you come on a information meeting and after that you might get coaching, maybe next year".
I wanted advice on an idea yesterday, not next year. Wrong timing and the wrong person.

I love when people do as I tell them
After one hour on the phone to the Big Hospital I reached a nurse. Isn't it amazing that in 2009 we still have to wait on the phone! For hours! I had almost forgotten why I called when it was my turn.
Nothing urgent. I just wanted a cure of some old medicine that I usually get a couple of times a year and the doctor to write me such a prescription. The nurse asked what phone-number the doctor could use to contact me. I told her that he didn't need to speak to me in person, since I've seen him already plenty of times and even quite recently. I proposed that he could just send me an e-mail when the prescription was ready, so I would know when to fetch the medicine at my local drug store. I also told her what doses I wanted and gave her my e-mail address.
After an hour the nurse called me up. I could hear the smile in her voice when she told me that the (old fashioned white haired) doctor had done exactly as I told her. Except writing the mail...
I guess she must have been as amazed as I was.

Curious about the man behind the prize
This peace prize made me curious. Who is deciding on who should get the prize?
A group of five Norwegian politicians, headed by some guy. I quickly read all the articles I could find about him.
He is known to have done the most stupid thing in recent Norwegian political history. Gro Harlem Bruntland who is a cool lady called him stupid. Maybe he wants to change what will be written about him in the history books?
He is known to be a networking guy. He has been networking with all the social leaders in the world for many years. And he has been writing a book about a famous German politician, that's even better than networking isn't it?
He seems to do certain things for one year only, but the titles look good in his CV. He has an economical degree which is one year (?) (according to Wikipedia, didn't know Norway had one year degrees). He was prime-minister for one year. He was minister of foreign affairs for one year.
He likes to get those roles that have a nice title, but no power. He has been President of the Norwegian parliament. In Sweden that role is called "speechman" (talman), since he is the one who keeps track of who is the next to give a speech.
Recently he has advanced to do more advanced things as secretary-general in the European council, as far as I understand. European council, you may ask, is that part of the European Union? No, it's a completely different organization with other members. How he got the job? Well, some people say that some large country helped him. Maybe they just didn't want to have his Polish competitor as a chairman.
He has also written books. That's really good marketing! His name is Jagland, by the way, the political networking and personal marketing specialist who gave away a price that might not help the peace in the world.
Let's hope I'm wrong. Let's hope it was a brilliant choice. I like Obama so far, I'm just reading his book about his dads dream. Of course I would like all wars to stop immediately! I'm just not sure this Norwegian guy really knows how to make that happen. Or maybe he does...?

Designers showing off in Idol
I was watching Idol when I suddenly remembered something. I can usually tell who sings well (sometime even who will be the winner) by checking when my hair stands on its ends. It happened to me when Erik was singing and then also during the Mariette, Tove and the Asian girl's performances. Today it was strongest when Erik sang.
The jury has a tricky job, because if they criticize anyone too much, people feel sorry for him (or her) which results in a lot of extra votes. I think it's good that they tell when the singers have been out of tune. It sounds terrible but it seems most people don't hear the difference since they vote for them anyway. I usually don't vote until the real final. By the way, my kids who are teenagers, don't even watch the show. Yet they are much more likely to buy music than I am.
I imagine that different singers attract different groups of audience. Many people out there especially middle age men and people in small cities love anything rocky which some singers always benefit from. Winners have to be popular across different groups of audience.
My advice to the participants would be to behave as natural as possible. The girl who had to leave the show tonight, had some image problems. Image problems seems to be more common among the girls than the guys. They are being dressed up in all kinds of strange outfits that makes them feel uncomfortable. I've seen a lot of overdone hair-do and too sexy clothes during the years. If the girls don't like the style, people can feel it. The girl who had to leave the show tonight almost looked a bit like Madonna when she sang, and she was a good singer too, but she made some terrible moves with her long legs spread wide apart that didn't look good together with the strange skirt she was wearing. I think the designers showed off on the poor girls expense. By the way, it is not clear to me if there is any dance instructor involved..

Unknown to me
Sounds good to me that it was a women who got the Nobel price in literature, but I must admit I have not read anything written by her. As a matter of fact I've never heard of Herta Müller before.
How to get away from the homogenous crowd?
From one thing to another. Today I was reminded about the competition again.
There are lots and lots of guys with the same experience as I have, applying for the same jobs as I do.
First when I see them I think, "what a boring crowd, I'm different compared to them". But then I talk to a few of them, and I realize that we have the same background, and our applications probably look the same. They are pretty intelligent and ambitious guys. They can do similar things as I can do. They have similar ideas.
It's clear that I need to differentiate. I need to find my own way. The question is which way is mine and how should I find it?
Looking back at times in my life where I had to take a decision, I was pretty much a coward. Sometimes I took a risk, but most of the times I didn't, and that's something I do regret today.
So the only thing I'm quite sure about is that this time I need to be prepared to take a risk. If I don't risk anything I won't win anything. I just want to take the right risk. Maybe that's nothing but a contradiction isn't...? That's because I'm tired.

Should Idol be called Model?
It seems they should have renamed Idol to Model instead.
What's his name, the bear-like guy with too much self-confidence and small eyes...
he seems to think he should select a boy band who can do playback and not sing
He told several women that he didn't like their style
but it turned out they were great singers and beautiful too
He gives some old private favorite the chance to be handpicked although she can't sing, while some other cool girl with a voice is neglected.
He told one guy that if he would have had the other sex he would liked to drawn in his eyes (what rubbish!)
And how did he dare to look as if he was jealous of this wonderful guy with glasses and also mention the glasses in his feedback?
I think he should be ashamed of himself. Good television isn't everything.
We also don't want to hear him put his exwife on some sort of test. She and the third guy in the jury are all professional, and trying their best to do a good job.
Personality is a good thing on TV, but you need to shape up!

Who grieves the most?
I learned something recently.
If someone is going to die
you grieve because you will loose that person
If you are that someone
you grieve because you will loose everybody at once
If someone is going to die
you grieve because you will loose that person
If you are that someone
you grieve because you will loose everybody at once

My lavatory rhyme
If you care
and want to protect
If you look up to
and do respect
If you wish to give
without getting back
If you may believe
a better self is revealed
Is it only me
who call these
small pieces of love?
and want to protect
If you look up to
and do respect
If you wish to give
without getting back
If you may believe
a better self is revealed
Is it only me

Staying alive
When I hear this song, I remember a summer language course in Western Germany, where I made friends with a girl from Dalarna. We two were dancing like crazy at the local discotheques, to this music.
How innocent I was, and how innocent my parents must have been. The German girl in the family I was visiting was on drugs, but I was just dancing disco and walking home alone in the night through the empty streets...

The very old man
The subheading used to be "instead of mails, so nobody needs to answer" to this blog... Here I am again, blogging.
I'd like to tell you about the old man I sometimes see in the grocer's shop. He must be around 90 years old, but he stares at me in a quizzically way as if he was much younger or a bit mad. He must have been a charm in his days. I think I've seen him with a very old lady.
The other evening he said "Are you allowed to be out this late?" which made me laugh out laud. The only laugh that day. Thanks old man!

Idol
Don't know why I find Idol so fascinating. Maybe because I've been participating in contests myself. But then I had taken lessons and practiced for many years.
There are lots of very talented young people out there who wants to become a star in Idol. But some of them seemed to have walked directly from singing in the shower on to the stage. Hey, the other ones are almost professional... you'd better start by performing at school or at local events in front of friends, before making a fool of yourself in the TV show, that's my advice.
However, the ones the jury has selected now are all very good. I'll follow the show...

What would your focus be? What is your focus?
What would you do if you knew that you had only one more year to live?
Would you start enjoying yourself like crazy, would you write your biography, would you collect as much money as possible, watch more TV or would you think about your kids and your family what you can do for them?
Well, that's today's questions... Please tell me, what will you do tomorrow? What should I make sure to do tomorrow..

A personal filter
I think it's amazing that every person that I meet seems to have something to give me in my current situation. Friends, professionals but also completely strangers that I happen to talk to.
Maybe I have a perception filter on that only extract info that helps me with my current headache "how to find and get the job that will feed me and my kids and make me happy during daytime for the next coming years".

Who wants to hear the truth?
Lately I've been too outspoken and told some people exactly what I think. Just as I used to do, when I was young. It feels good at the very moment, but maybe not after some time. Sometime I feel like things are just logical, and why don't people see things my way, without me having to tell them?
I have changed coach. They called me to a meeting to discuss it, but I tried to avoid it. I had already made up my mind and didn't want to explain. Sitting in useless meetings is terrible. It was quite useless until I questioned why I was there. My new coach thinks I'm funny.
When I was a kid I thought "the truth" was something one should try to find...
How innocent I was.

Taxi driver, just for a Saturday evening
If I don't find any other job, I could always become a taxi driver, since I like to drive.
Tonight I've been driving a couple of youngsters around in the city. No problem, I'm pretty cool in the jungle of taxi drivers and other aggressively driving people. (Like most foreigners - when it comes to driving I must admit I'm pretty much a racist.)
I almost forgot to drop one of the passengers off in my normal absent-mindedness. Then I remembered that I get asthma from the AC and few Swedish passengers like it windy in the backseat. And once when I was going on a car vacation with my kids, I ended up with back problems. Suddenly it didn't seem like an alternative any longer.
I'd better figure out how to take advantage of some more unusual skills and insights.

The competing crowd
It is the way I thought it would be. There are hundreds (or more) of competitors with similar competence on every job that I apply for. I am not brighter, more experienced or more hardworking than any of those guys.
I know I'm different than most of them. Maybe I have a different personality type. Maybe I behave differently. Maybe I take a different view on things.
If anyone appreciate those differences? Don't think so.

Not wrong, just different
One of my friends tell me I'm completely wrong about the money and happiness. She tells me I'm fooled. Maybe she is right. Maybe we end up meditating over some books, trying to get the right happy thoughts in our heads, while others grab the money and go ahead and implement the environment for their dreams to come true.
Maybe my friend is more successful than me when it comes to status and owning things, but she lives with a man who takes her down, while I live with the dream of a happy relationship. We don't envy each other. We've got different goals, that's all.

OK...
I better admit I've nothing against money. A family with lots of kids in the neighbourhood won a large amount of money on lottery. They bought a bigger hourse, cool cars and travelled as far as I know. I wouldn't mind doing that too..

Why be jealous of richness and money?
Today I listened to a guy who is spending his life helping people. For the moment he is prioritizing his family and his two small sons, since his wife is studying. He happened to mention that he couldn't help being a bit jealous of one of his old friends who had chosen a career within business and now possessed several houses, a lot of money together with his wife and children (that he hardly ever had time to meet). I told him he shouldn't be jealous, that I had a feeling that he probably would end up happier than his friend would be.
To make other people jealous might be an important goal for him, since it makes him feel more successful and proud of himself. But there is a risk that his friend will wake up one day and ask himself why he has been prioritizing to get all that money and have all those houses, when they don't bring him any happiness.
Of course there was someone listening who objected and pointed out that it was just my opinion. Yes, it is my opinion and my experience.
I'm so surprised that people haven't realized that money gives security, but sometimes a false security. Money gives freedom, but sometimes an imaginary freedom. Money is nice to have, but too much money surely doesn't bring any happiness, so walking around and dreaming about lots and lots of money is just a wast of dreaming. At least for us, not being poor.
For the moment I'm quite to happy to have enough money to live a good life, but I would still rather live in a cabin with someone I love instead of in a castle with someone I hate, if I had to choose. But of course, that's just me.

"I know the subject much too well..."
Yesterday I felt a moment of euphoria when I read the following sentences:
Salvador Dali was expelled from the academy of art ..."I am very sorry, but I am infinitely more intelligent than these professors, and I therefor refuse to be examined by them. I know this subject much too well." (originally from "The secret life of Salvador Dali")
Haha, I know the feeling!
I am NOT saying that I'm more intelligent than anyone else (no no no), but I felt I was fired by people who knew the subject less well... I had the feeling "who are you to fire me, why don't you listen to me instead?"
But I guess there is some reason to bring in new management, that can look with fresh eyes on things, without any previous knowledge or experience. Knowledge can be a burden, isn't it so?

To pick the right song
My sister who is a teacher occasionally sings at weddings and funerals.
Very sadly one of her older colleagues at school recently died.
My sister volunteered to sing at the memorial time arranged by the school, so she went home to practice the song she wished to sing. It was not going to be a religious song because the man had not been religious. When my sister had been practicing the song for two days, she spent just a minute digging into her large pile of sheets of music collected during many years. She happened to find "Bridge over troubled water" and felt very strongly that this was the right song to sing. She had never sung it before.
After she had sung at the school, the widow approached her and explained that "Bridge over troubled water" had been her husbands favorite song. My sister who had shared the same study room as the man for some time, had no idea...
She tells me that sometimes when making a choice it's better not to think too much.

We are different
I've made a personalization test. I made it together with a group of people that I've learned to know a little bit (used to call them losers, well they weren't..). Wow. It was suddenly so clear why I appreciate certain people more than others.
I adore people with flexible minds. People who don't use their brains only to sort things and keep details in order according to a completely repeatable routine, like some simple computer.
I hate routines and like improvisation. I remember the first time I went to London together with my kids. I was proud that I had found a great musical and bought tickets on the web in advance. When I gave them a guidebook at the hotel and asked them what they wanted to do, they explained that when they had been there with their dad, he had had a specific plan for each day. Well, we're all different.

A good woman manages things herself...?
My motto is: A good woman manages things herself. But what any woman needs is encouragement...
Now I'm thinking back. I was a single mother, during years having own responsibility for two kids, with worry for the kids dad in the back of my head and working full time. After some years such a situation gets tiring.
In that situation, what did people tell me?
Either they shared with me that they thought I had a hopeless situation (hopeless? I didn't find it hopeless...). Or they were complaining. I received complaints about my home not being tidy enough (typically when they arrived unexpectedly), my kids were too slim (did they really get proper food..?) or that I was working too much (did I spend enough time with the kids..?).
From my point of view, I didn't get much encouragement, almost never any real rest and sometime not even help when I asked for it. Once when I was having certain relatives over (probably for lunch) I asked if I could get some help to move three some large cupboards (2.4m high) across a room. I remember the answer "no, I don't think you should move those", "they fit much better where they are". Guess who moved the damn cupboards myself across the room, when they had left? (Anything in a home apart from a grand piano is possible to move for one person using a carpet and some imagination.)
Maybe I am very unfair now when I complain. Sometimes I got help, during the kids vacations they were welcome to visit relatives, which was like heaven for me. Unfortunately when the kids got older they refused to go. Some relative living in the neighborhood was never ever babysitting! Sometimes I got "help" that I didn't wanted or needed. Like getting my flowers repot, when I would rather have gone out dancing.
Now I am keeping my home much more tidy, and I am cooking proper food and I have time for my teenagers (they are no small kids any longer). Now I am fulfilling the implied requirements put on mothers. Well, it feels pretty good. No complaints, except from a certain person who probably never will stop complaining about my taste, my furniture, my ways etc. (I assume complaining on a close relative just shows that you're not happy with yourself.)
The only problem is that I don't earn any money nowadays, so this MUST be a temporary situation. Besides I will find this very boring over time.
If you happen to know any single mother, please tell her "you're doing a great job" whatever she does. Because, that's what she needs to hear! That will give her energy to become an even better mother. No complaints, whatsoever! Please, remember that...
Brands say something ...
When I was a child the German brands were quite common, especially in older equipment. I remember brands such as Grundig (radio and TV) and Bosch for household equipment and we had a Volkswagen car. My parents' generation studied Germany at school, together with English. I believe they preferred to watch Swedish movies and English detective stories.
Today I drive an old Volvo and have some Electrolux equipment that needs to be replace and used to have SonyEricsson phone. I find all kinds of labels like hp, Dell, Philips but also JVC, Acer, Sony etc on our black boxes (maybe it doesn't matter what label there is, since most things are made in low cost countries). The kids watch American high school series, South Park and Simpsons. They think reading Swedish books is a bit of yesterday, but rather buy some English or American ones.
What will the labels of tomorrow be, and who will own them? Will they be Chinese or Russian? Will Swedish companies still be strong in new fields? Will the research at Universities be ambitious when the large companies are sold and moved? Will people start small companies when all private economical protective systems including pension disappear when you start your own company, unless you are able to give yourself a good salary..?

Increased revenue streams for dentists...
Have you even thought about how dentists can increase their revenues?
Either they increase the prices, of course, or they start to charge for all kinds of things. I've discovered that I should avoid talking to my handsome male dentist if I don't want to pay extra for "prophylaxis"... The problem is that he seems to like talking too...
Another option is to hire someone who doesn't require much salary, who can make appointments with people and talk to them without fixing their teeth. I think they are called hygienists. I avoid those since I have no problems with my tooth brush, besides they are not dentists and usually women and therefor not as interesting to talk to.
A third alternative is to reduce the time between the appointments. How often do you see your dentist? Twice a year, once a year, less or more than a year.. It seems to vary a lot.
I told my dentist I was unemployed and suddenly I didn't have to come within 18 months, so I assume that's the normal interval for check-ups when they don't focus on increasing the revenue streams....

Is the future of Swedish industry a Black Swan?
Today I had the opportunity to talk to a guy who had been sacked after more than 30 years in a Swedish high tech company. He was an IT expert, with a very long impressive CV. As far as I understand there are not many people with his knowledge and experience in the world.
I don't know why he lost his job. Someone must have thought that it wasn't a good business case to keep him. Maybe he was considered too old (in Sweden you should not be much older and know more than your manager) and too well payed. I don't know.
During the lunch he gave me some details on GI diets and explained why the human body does put on weight when we eat carbohydrates. He also shared some other theories in other areas. My impression was that this wasn't a guy that had stopped learning or stopped using his brain, and besides he was a pleasant person.
Interesting to note is that his former employers' most aggressive competitor is planning to hire him. It seems they see a business case in paying for using his experience and skills. Their strategy is to use his and others experienced brains to figure out the best way of doing things and then let more inexperienced and cheaper labor implement it.
If my grand children ask me in the future what happened to the Swedish industry, the industry that used to be very successful and important to this country, I think I have a good story to tell them. But no good explanation why nobody could foresee what was going to happen to it. Maybe I should tell them that important people with insight later on explained it as a Black Swan, that they couldn't foresee because they had not seen it happen before ...

Is it possible to predict what's coming?
I'm reading the Black Swan. Can't give a resume' because I'm just in a first chapters. The idea is that big changes have never been seen or guessed in advance. With traditionally science we can only learn about what has already happen. True.
This morning I read in Ny Teknik that there is a new book written by people from Ericsson that shows why Ericsson managed to come back every time when there had been a large unpredictable change. The reason was that the engineers has done some "skunk work", that management didn't know about. One of the reason for the success according to Ny teknik is that Ericsson has always had the culture where different opinions could be present at the same time.
Considering the two different views above...
I believe that things can be predicted on the market. If there is a big need, and there is technology that can solve the need, the change comes. My theory is that one reason for engineers to know what's about to come earlier than management, could be not only that they know the new technology (because all good engineers always keep them selves updated on such things), they might also be clear on the limitation on the current one ... besides, the vendors have been driven by engineers having the same background and sharing the same ideas.
How do the vendors look today? Have they sacked their old staff?

Job hunting on a Monday morning
My plan for today was to aggressively apply for a job. I was thinking about of some extraordinary actions, like calling someone up just before office hours or visit the office uninvited. Last night it seemed like the only thing to do, but in the morning it felt rather unprofessional.
I woke up and blew my nose so strongly so my ear became totally blocked. Not that I've got a cold, rather this mysterious allergic thing. Now it was even more difficult to make this important call to a potential employer. Imagining saying "Sorry, could you please repeat..." over and over again, not the perfect scenario when trying to make a good impression.
Then my eye was caught by one of my first personal letters I had written. OMG, I fully understand why they didn't bother to call me for an interview! At that time I didn't even realize that a personal letter and a cv are two different items....
Today I didn't have any self confidence whatsoever. I remembered when I almost got a new job once, in the Big Company, but it was suddenly stopped by some mysterious upper management decision. Didn't that happen several times, actually? It had probably nothing to do with my cv or the first impression ...
OK, now. How to improve my self confidence?
The positive affirmations I came up with sounded like terrible lies!
I read a very nice mail from a former colleague. But did he really know me well? Maybe he is the type of person that appreciates everybody?
Well, in the end, I managed to copy and paste and put together both a personal mail and a cv based on earlier versions and posted it. Great!
Do I need to call up as well? Just now? Are Mondays really good days to receive calls..?

How do we react?
Got a compliment the other day. My son told me that if there was going to be a catastrophy he would be safer together with me, since I always take things seriously...
Normally he complains over his "overprotective" mother, but there was a film on TV that gave him the idea that my way of reacting would be benefitial in an exteme situation. I hope I never have to find out.....

Me ten years ago
Today I've been visiting my professional coach. Don't know why, but every time I see her I feel absolutely worthless. Today I realized that I've got an age problem. I believe my age is a problem, but my coach believe it is not. I think she is wrong.
I don't understand why anyone would hire a middle-age person as long as there are younger people available. My coach tries to explain that a lot of company wants more experienced personal. I guess she means that I'm "experienced".
Let's compare myself with my younger me. Ten years ago I was learning new things all the time, but today people get surprised if I want to learn something new.
About ten years ago I had my middle-age crisis. I decided I didn't want to sit and watch TV in front of an open fire in the countryside during the summer, like a retired person. I wanted more out of life, more excitement. Today I'm happy if I may light a fire at all.
Ten years ago I had a temporarily dip in my physical fitness. Today I'm happy if I may take a long walk.
Ten years ago my kids looked up to me and asked me for help. Today my kids think I'm a failure in all aspects and hope they will do better themselves.
Ten years ago I thought I had half my life still to live. Today I think maybe I'll die soon, so I better live today.
Ten years ago I had dreams, today I know it's ridiculous to dream.
If there was a ten years younger version of me, I would certainly go for that one.

Do you have a goal or do you just enjoy yourself?
What's your goal in life?
I'm trying to understand what mine is, because I think I've got one.
Sometimes I envy people who knows exactly what they want, and just go for it.
Sometimes I envy people who knows exactly what they want, and just go for it.
What drives me seems to be to overcome my limitations. When being kids, that kind of attitude is natural. We keep trying until we can do something. We want to move, walk, climb and then climb trees and so on, depending on what we see others doing, or how curious or determined we are.
At some point, as grown ups, we realize that cannot do something, and give up, and try something else, or keep doing what we already know. At which point we give up seems to be quite personal.
Some people especially middle-aged men claim they only focus on delight. It seems mature to me, but still a bit strange. How did they come to that conclusion, and what have they been given up on the way?
Imagine that you are in a sports arena. A bunch of people are practicing something, some others are competing. A crowd is just watching, dreaming that they are in the game. Some others they lay down, smells the grass and the sweat from peoples sneakers, and say: I just love to be here!
Which ones of those are you? I think I am that idiot still practicing, competing and maybe wondering what the smell is outside of the arena. When I smell the grass it's because I'm biting it..

No more Svenska Dagbladet!
Now I've changed newspaper to Dagens Nyheter instead. I don't want to be angry every morning!
Stop harassing Annika Falkengren!
Annika Falkengren has got a top position in the Swedish economy as a head of a bank on her own merits (as far as I understand). The problem is that she is a blond and beautiful woman. Another problem is that her board pays her too much salary compared to colleagues in other banks, so the newspaper Svd is harassing her. We all know what that means, she will soon lose her job. That's a shame! Maybe that's the only way for some guys in the bank to get rid of her... you never know.
Annika Falkengren serves as a unique example for all the young women in Sweden! She is not old, fat and ugly as the other top females in the Swedish economy (at Telia, LO etc), no, she looks and behaves in a way that makes it possible for young women to identify themselves with her. Maybe she gets female customers to her bank, too? None of her colleagues in the other banks could do that...Sweden is a country full of beautiful blond women, everybody knows that. But heading up companies and banks are only to be done by men in suits having the right connections or women who have inherited their position and power.
Let me also mention another female who uniquely is heading up a political party in government position. Maud Olofsson. She now declares that the government is going to stop requesting more women into the boards of the Swedish industry. Maud, you are nuts? Don't you think you yourself got many votes from women? Well, if you support the "male only" road, women don't need you in the government!
My own experience of females in leading positions is mixed. I have had female managers that were supportive towards everybody but maybe thinking a little bit extra about the possibilities for other women. But recently I have also seen female managers who rather favor men, and even ending up sacking other women (in a male dominated industry!). There is a book called "There is a special place in hell for women who don't support each other". The title speaks for itself.

I doubt the spooky... except dreams
I've never met anyone "spooky". Not even anyone who claims to see into the future. I happen to be a very suspicious person, that looks for explanations. But people I know have met "spooky" persons. Good for them.
I would like to meet someone who can convince me, that something like that is for real. Would be interesting.

The flu might not be a good laugh
Some people mock me because I'm afraid of the swineflu. I don't care about the statistics. Most people don't care about statistical possibilities, otherwise their wouldn't exist any lotteries.
I've got asthma and normally not full lung capacity. My understanding is that the medicine most asthma patients have to take reduces the power of resistance, since it stops our stupid bodies from fighting innocent things instead of waiting for real virus and bacteria. I'll check with the doctors!
Laughing? Well go ahead, I don't care...

The young perspective
My daughter believes that everybody else are happy. I guess that's what you think when you are a teenager.
Please show me someone who hasn't got any problems and is totally happy..

Under the surface
Let's say that you have got cancer, and you get some nasty treatment. That's tough. Imagine that you get lots and lots of nasty treatment, that is very very tough.
Let's say that they try different kind of treatment to control the cancer. Let's say that you have got a terrible pain. Imagine the anguish and fear too much pain gives. Now imagine that you also have a beloved kid, that you think about.

I know a person in such a situation. A personal blog gives the means to regularly communicate the current health situation. It is written in a positive or neutral tone, in order not to increase the readers' worry.
The blog is written about general subjects using a good language, with an edge and a sense of humor. When there is an opportunity, at times with less pain but at the hospital, the latest health care proposal is for instance being reviewed, in order to give some very relevant comments on the blog.

They say that it is how you handle the things that happens to you that makes the difference. I do agree. I knew this person is intelligent, providing an analysis and an interesting discussion on job related things, but I had no idea there could be so much human strength under the surface.

Do you want to feel young?
Just now I've got my office in my kitchen. An office needs a printer. Having a printer on the table or by the toaster didn't seem like a good idea, so it is placed under the table. Whenever there is any trouble and an error message is shown on the display I have to sit under the table, with a lamp to be able to see. It gave me such a flashback to my childhood when we used to make a little house under a table. Do you remember how much fun it was? (Please don't misunderstanding this, I'm NOT playing under my kitchen table, I just remembered how fun it was when being a small kid.)
Some days ago I was walking in the city late in the evening together with a girl friend. We saw this almost empty outdoor dance floor where an middle age DJ was playing old disco hits. There was only a group of tourists hiding under a shelter listening, since it was a bit rainy. I couldn't resist the opportunity to dance, so we joined the dance. Soon after, the floor was crowded with people who were dancing like crazy in the rain. An unusual mix of foreign, Swedish, old and young people simply enjoying themselves. At that moment I felt more like a teenager rather than a middle age woman in a rain jacket.
Sometimes when I run my bike, play music loud or make my kids laugh I don't feel old.
I remember the speech that Brook Shields gave at the (criticized TV-) memorial ceremony of Michael Jackson where she talked about how childish they were, because they had not been able to play as kids since they were artist then. That was quite understandable to me.
Maybe also especially well behaved kids who always made our homework, have an extra need to feel childish as grown ups? Or maybe that's just a very typical feeling, when we realize that we aren't young any longer and we actually miss it?
One word: MIDDLE-AGED!!!
