One guy said "I prefer to have lingon-berries together with my steak", (or something. Not something he wanted me to bring to him from the fridge, it was just a comment. I do remember it because I felt like my very nice steak was compared to the lunch that guy used to have at his normal lunch place.
That's one reason to cook something extraordinary, something odd, something unique. But there just so many different places to eat with different cuisines these days. And people travel. If you cook something Japanese, maybe your guests prefer it the way they do it in Japan...
Anyway, at Christmas you're supposed to cook the traditional Christmas food, whatever that is where you live, and in your particular family. So it's very likely that I will hear; what recipe did you use to do this herring, was it grandma's or??
It doesn't really make it exciting, does it? Especially since most of the things I cook I could very easily buy ready made instead...
