Why do women wear those tight clothes at gym?

Why do women wear tight clothes at gym? Even when they're not slim and good looking?
Do they need to expose their rolls over their bodies as some sort of proof or excuse for being there? I don't want to see it! Why don't they wear some large loose clothing (as I do)?
I only want to see nice looking people when I'm training. If I see fat people spending a lot of time exercising and they're still fat, then I don't want to exercise!

Emptiness

Have you been alone in the office a Friday evening when everybody has left?
Have you opened the fridge and found that it is empty, when you expected at least something eatable in there?
Have you been sitting home alone in front of the TV because you don't want to bother anyone one of those holidays when everybody else is partying ?
Have you been working many years in a company and one day you walk out of there and you know you will never come back?
Have you owned a house that you had many dreams and plans around but left it without fulfilling the dreams?
Have you passed the house where you grew up and realized that you don't know the people who lives there and they have also changed everything?
Have you been walking in an empty city late at night or early in the morning and realized that nobody would hear or pay attention if something happened to you?
Have you written a blog and realized that nobody is reading it?

Just some moments that gives me a feeling of emptiness...I'm sure you have plenty too.

A few advices for girls at work

Some of my experiences over the years... (I could write much more, but these are things that comes into my mind).

First you should find out what people are measured on and what their goals are (spelled our or not). Then expect that to have higher priority than everything else, including common sense, experience, just everything. People also have private goals that you should be aware of.

If you think that people you work with don't know what they're doing, please don't show or tell them what you think. They may have a plan that you don't know about.

Watch out for people who believe they are geniuses or more on less on the same level as Good, never question them in front of others and don't let them understand that you think they are just ordinary people. If you think people are knowledgeable, experienced and helpful, it's a good idea to tell them.

Be aware of people who are unexperienced and might feel insecure. If they do things in a completely stupid way, don't tell them how it should be done because then they will hate you for it. It's better to let them learn by themselves, unless they ask you for help.

If you are insecure and don't know how to do something, find out how people have done it before, and see if that's a good idea to reuse that way.

Make friends, but don't chat too much. Don't make friends with just a few, rather be friendly with everyone if possible.

Make sure you don't make enemies. One way to make enemies is to compete. Competition is likely to happen if you're having exactly the same role as a colleague. Ask your manager to define your role, so it's clear who is doing what, unless you are working together with someone who likes to work together, of course.

Be useful and helpful, but don't help people who don't want help. Some people likes to complain, but they don't want you to help them. Make sure to find which is the case. You should of course help people who wants your help.

Never speak bad about anybody else at work. It's easily done, but it will hurt you one way or another.

Never tell anyone if you have had some kind of problems. They may use it against you (even people you may think are your friends). Treat people as they were your friends, but never trust them 100%.

People like to gossip. Don't tell your manager things you don't want to have spread out, even private stuff. Your manager is likely to tell his or her manager.

Don't trust human resources. It is their job to facilitate the noticing and firing of people. But they are trained to be perceived as being friendly and are normally very good listeners, so be aware! Human resources usually have a file where all kinds of information about you is stored. A file that you're never allowed to see, so you wouldn't know for instance if someone have had any complaints about you.

You may flirt, but in the case you may fall in love make sure to handle it outside work. You should be aware of that people may flirt a lot with you, but most of the time it's just for fun.

If you're young and you believe an older colleague or manager has got a crush on you, it's best to not pretend not to know about it.

If you are older, you should be careful not to flirt with the younger guys. Keep it strictly to business. They may have a bad relation to their mother or sisters, and might not feel comfortable even with female friends, so take it easy and don't even expect to be friends.

When it comes to talking in public, like in large gatherings and meetings, I don't have any good advice. You should be aware of that in some organisations it's positively perceived as strong devotion, but others may find it provocative. Some managers feel responsible for your questions, so make sure to find out the company culture before opening your mouth.

It is good to be visible, but don't send e-mails to people that don't answer. If you for instance send mails to your manager, but you don't get any response, you should write exactly what response or action you would like to see. Many people thinks information is a burden. Make sure to find out what the case is with the people you work with.

Sensitive things should never be written in mails. Keep private communication private by using a private mail address.

Make sure to always use your title, address etc in the end of the mail. Don't expect people to respect what you say if you don't tell them your role. (it's stupid, but it tend to work that way)

Use weekly or monthly reports to show what you have accomplished. Never expect people to already know about it.

Most people are proud to be asked for help and most people are willing to help. Be very generous with compliments and make sure to give people credit.

Make sure you work with something that interests you, it makes it much more fun.

Christmas evening is approaching, or the morning

Why do I want Christmas to be perfect this year? I'm not a perfectionist.
Normally Christmas is for the kids in my family, buying presents in order to make them happy. This year I feel like I'm making Christmas for my parents. To give them the Christmas close to what they would like to have. I'm even trying to lay the table in a way that will make them happy. Maybe I want to show they that they don't need to worry about me.

There is still things that needs to be fixed. But I need to get some sleep too.
Have a nice Christmas!!! Whatever kind of Christmas you happen to have..

Traditional cooking ..

Once upon a time I remember I made a steak when we were having guests. Not some sort of party, just some friends that stayed for dinner. One guy said "I prefer to have lingon-berries together with my steak", (or something. Not something he wanted me to bring to him from the fridge, it was just a comment. I do remember it because I felt like my very nice steak was compared to the lunch that guy used to have at his normal lunch place.

That's one reason to cook something extraordinary, something odd, something unique. But there just so many different places to eat with different cuisines these days. And people travel. If you cook something Japanese, maybe your guests prefer it the way they do it in Japan...

Anyway, at Christmas you're supposed to cook the traditional Christmas food, whatever that is where you live, and in your particular family. So it's very likely that I will hear; what recipe did you use to do this herring, was it grandma's or??
It doesn't really make it exciting, does it? Especially since most of the things I cook I could very easily buy ready made instead...

Except for one dish, that several members of my family can't eat unless it's homemade, due to food allergy. So, that's the only dish I like to cook..that I know will be appreciated!

I'm absolutely not patient enough!

When my firstborn was an infant, my dad told me he was surprised and impressed by my patience. Now, when this girl is a grown up teenager, I would surely need some patience.

My clothes tend to disappear sometimes, because they are being borrowed. I can live with that. I take it as a compliment. But.... Three days before X-mas my daughter takes my only X-mas cookbook and walks away with it, without asking, without even telling me and then of course not answering her phone!!

Parents don't have to be patient when their kids are infants... what was my dad thinking about? Maybe he meant "I'me happy to see that you're patient, because you will need that in the years to come"???

Since it was Lucia some days ago

One of my favorite Lucia songs "A star i shining". In Globen two years ago, performed by Adolf Fredrik music school. I was there listening.

Saab is cult...

My sister used to have an old SAAB. It was a real car. You were sitting upright and it was still plenty of room. Having a very good view from the front seat, not usual for such a small car. I remember the doors and the seats were heavy and felt kind of solid, compared to modern cars.

Saab was bought by GM years ago, and now it seems they're closing it down. They tried to make Saab become just any other car. Who would ever try to do the same thing with BMW?

Didn't they understand that Saab is cult? Especially a Spring green one. Just as the one my sister used to drive. Saab owners used to be very loyal, they never changed to another brand, just as Volvo owners used to be.

Now let's see what happens to Volvo.... I happen to drive a Volvo.

Never too late to change, is it?

This is the Idol winner Erik.

I had no idea I liked hard-rock. Usually I don't, unless it's a ballad.
Let's see if the clip works. Last time it was only commercials and no song... :(

By the way, I think web TV is great. Instead of zapping to find something to watch when I want to relax in front of the TV, I can watch the few programs that interests me at my PC. I usually miss the news. Now I can watch the news in the kitchen when I'm cooking. Much better service than having to be on time for some specific show.

Today for instance, I could watch the Lucia procession when I woke up, instead of waking up and finding out that I've already missed it. Since I don't have any small kids anymore I don't get it live at dagis or at school...

I love the Lucia songs. It was when I was listening to a Lucia performance at work many years ago, I discovered that we react different on music. I was standing beside a colleague and commented on a song that made my hair raise on my arms. What do you mean, he said. He had never experienced that, unless it was cold and he was freezing. I've inherited it from my dad. He used to have very short hear that all raised when he liked something which made his head look very funny. We can usually pick winners in music competitions.... Next occasion will be the selection for the Swedish contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Who is running Christmas?

Normally we go to my parents' over Christmas. It's a tradition that we gather there, at their place. This year my mother has stated that she is too tired to fix everything. I offered myself to go there in advance to help her, but that wasn't accepted. So, I invited them all to come to my place and celebrate Christmas instead. Simple as that. I've done it at least once before but at that time we were living in a large house.

Nobody is happy about this arrangement, except my mother. Everybody things it's much better to go to the countryside for a few days and be able to walk in the silent woods in the evening hoping there aren't any bears nearby or to walk on the ice on the lake during the day. Much more space indoors too, and everything just exactly as it used to be every year.

I've started to cook and bake now. I don't mind. It's quit fun. On the positive side is that since I'm "running Christmas " this year is that I will decide what to eat when and so forth. That's what I thought. But my little mother hates the idea of anybody else taking any decisions whatsoever about anything. Not just related to Christmas or cooking. She like to take all decisions and influence everything. Because she knows best. Now she has started to call and tell us what she is planning to bring. One would think that she would ask what I want her to bring..
If she knew I was writing this, she wouldn't come at all. That's what I'm afraid of. If she feels injured she will refuse to come at all and it wouldn't be any real Christmas without the old folks.

Maybe I need to start calling her to tell her what she doesn't need to bring...to make her understand that my fridge will be filled by the time of Christmas Eve. We need to see how similar we are. What she likes to do, I like to do too...

The Robbie boy makes me think about boys

Robbie Williams was in a sitcom. He is one of my favorite singers. I like his songs and his voice.
Seeing him on TV made me realize what I like with his appearance. He looks like a boy! (I'm not saying that he is my type, but he is a bit cute. Although he seems to be a bit childish)

I believe I'm looking for that boy I used to be in love with when I was a little girl or rather a boy that I would have liked as a little girl.

Some men are really focusing on their role as dads. It's great! But I'm not looking for a dad. They talk about their children and then I imagine them together with my kids. I see complications and problems.

Some men say bad things about their wives. They seem to hate women. I'm a woman! If they didn't understand their wives why would they understand me then?

Some men drive motorbikes and believe they are cool. They just make me think about men in large crowds at a football game where people tend to behave like flock animals without any intelligence. Good to have as a companion if there is a nature catastrophe or in a war, I guess.

I'm looking for a grown up boy that this grown up girl could fall in love with. But not really actively, it would be nice if he came in my way...somehow

Idol final

The final is always about taste. Which person do you like best?

I like Erik because he feels like he is my little baby brother, while
it feels like Calle is one of my neighbors baby brother.

Erik seems to be more mature and more professional. Besides he is a
better singer. His "the show must go on" made me shiver.

Btw is there a way to make money om music shivering?

There is only a risk that people don't bother to vote because Erik is
so superior. I might not vote.

The final is slow as one of those discovery channel programs; ten
minutes of material spread out over a complete program. Gäsp....

Walk over

Ha, I just heard that Obama didn't stay in Norway for their dinner and celebration. He went to Denmark to work instead. How funny!

The Nobel celebrations

I listened to most of Obamas speech today when he received the peace prize. It was clever, beautiful and touching. He is a hell of a good speaker. Sounded almost like a preacher. Don't know if the audience understood what he was saying, because their facial expressions were very neutral, they all looked like zeros. And if the rest of the world is watching, doesn't it look strange to see some bored idiots in some special chairs in the front row (the royal highness with wifes etc)? I think it looks nothing but medieval.

Just now is the Nobel dinner on TV. It's always broadcasted. People watch the celebrities eat and dance, all commended by reporters. "Is the finance minister sending text messages during the dinner? Oh no, it can't be true." "Here we can see the princess fiance talking to one of the price winners wifes. The fiance is a lowyer from Djursholm" etc etc. And then some reportage with interviews with the Nobel price winners where they explain what they have done.
All the winners are typically there, except the peace price winner, because he is in Norway where the peace price is delivered and celebrated. I'm sure he has much more fun and interesting conversation there. The Swedish celebration is extremely formal and very traditional.

Anyway, I'm happy to see that there are several of the Nobel price winners are women this year!! That's worth a celebration!

The crowd

My experience is that when you change job you loose a lot of friends. Or rather, it turns out people weren't personal friends after all. When I lost my job I was sad because I would loose the contact I had with a lot of people. But now I know who are my friends. They aren't many, but good.

If I would have made a career and continuously increased my status, then I wouldn't know, because it's only when you get problems you can tell who supports you and who's just around to look good.. or whatever reason.

I'll try to remember that if I become rich and famous one day...

Mixing

OK. Last blog: Of course the proposal was not regarding the climate
issue but rather about preventing spreading of dangerous substances.

Anyway the problem seems to be that we are too many on this earth.
Maybe they can spread some condoms too at that conference...

The question of the year, the climate

We can only discuss one issue at the time. For the moment it is the climate.
The ices are already melting, I know. That's scary.. ..and all disasters that our children might experience. I know this is serious.

I remember when the future depended on if I turned off the light when I left a room or not. I took that seriously, because I was a child then. I remember there were stickers on every button "turn off the light". Then a couple of years later the stickers were gone. Why?

I also remember when the trees were dying. That was scary. I've seen some trees that didn't look very well so I think it was true. I don't know what happened to those trees, did they recover? Not to mention the seas and the rare animals. A lot to worry about...

It seems the Swedish environment minister Andreas Carlgren knows what to do about the climate. I've read that he will stop the "environmental crooks" that are sending old computers, cars, fridges and mobile phones to poor countries.

OK, I agree that old fridges containing freon should be destroyed here, but how about old cars and mobile phones? If we have been running stinky old cars for about 50 years, why shouldn't some poor person be able to run that old car a bit more? And an old mobile phone could mean the world to a poor person. I think it's like preventing a starving person to eat the leftovers from your plate, because you think the food isn't healthy enough and you feel responsible for the health in the world.

Don't misunderstand me, I do think the climate is important. I just hope they concentrate on the most important things and don't do stupid mistakes. They are talking about sending money from rich countries to poor countries in order to improve the environment.

I've noted that Chinese banks, I mean Chinese companies, seems to afford to buy Swedish companies, because we can't afford to run them. But the environment in China is terrible, so it can't just be a question about money, can it? I hope it's not about sending money between countries, isn't it about funding certain projects, isn't it??

How to succeed or at least get somewhere

It was kind of funny the other day to hear a world champion describe herself almost as I would describe myself. "If someone tells me I can't do something, it really makes me want to do it".

The difference is that she has succeded better than she ever though she would do and I haven't had any success at all....

Everybody thought they understood why she had been successful. Hard work and following a certain schedule, yes, everybody agreed that they themselves had not been working hard enough. I didn't think they were listening if they came to that conclusion. Anyone can understand that hard work is required if you want to succeed in what you do.

She pointed out that having a goal was more important than following a specific plan. On the contrary, it was her and her crew members ability to adopt to whatever happened that made them successful. They were trained to not analyse in too much detail what went wrong but focus on making the most of the possibilities they had at hand to reach their goal. That's how they won!

(this was mailed from my mobile, that's why it looked terrible)

Working ant or outcast hermit...

I meet lots of people who have lost their jobs. Isn't it strange how we are? As long as we have got a defined task and we believe that we know what tomorrow looks like, then we just complain a little but most of the time we're fine. But as soon as we don't have any defined task any longer, and we're unsure about tomorrow, then we get worried. Some of us can't sleep and many feel worthless one way or another.

To me it looks like humans are like ants, living in large hills, with some society were everybody has a specific task. Maybe that's in our genes. That's the only way we know how to live, unless one become outcast or living as some lonely hermit. Maybe that's what we are afraid of? That would explain a lot.

Tonights TV issues. Does Bert vote?

I would like to know who is voting in Idol. Is it the people or is it Bert Carlsson who is planning to make some boy band or some country band?
Calle did a great "walking in Memphis" and everybody might not like hard rock like Erik was singing, but still, it is very strange how Calle could get most of the votes. It was a bit cruel of the jury to let him sing "do you think I'm sexy". He is as sexy as a cute puppy.

I was wondering about the voting when that other guy, Eddie, had to sing twice week ater week some time age. Looked very much arranged to me, to get more airtime. Eddie always looked very self confident, as if he knew that Bert was investing in automatic votes for him. Calle also looked self confident today, talking about "this could go all the way". It could not! It was impossible. I don't vote unless it is absolutely necessary. Maybe others think the same as I do, why should I give my money to some stupid TV-show... could be one reason. It wasn't even exciting. It was obvious that Calle would loose.

Erik was singing hard rock so I even I liked it. (I've never understood the beauty of hard rock before).
Tove was performing one of my personal favorites "the greatest love of all" beautifully. I'm pretty sure they both have a large audience. Calle should have been number five according to me, but now is number one! Very strange indeed.

Shakira was visiting Skavlan, just after Idol. She talked about some schools she is founding in poor areas of Colombia. She also said "a woman is like a diamond with several facets, she can have a short skirt, but she knows what she is talking about". She had a short skirt...

To disappear or be happy..

Every now and then it feels like people would be happy if I just disappeared. Now my neighbors give me that feeling too, after I've changed my standpoint during the past half year regarding an economical matter in the house... Maybe I could emigrate to the moon or something. Haven't they found water there?

No, why should I make idiots happy by disappearing?! Maybe I'll start practicing on my grand piano during the whole weekend instead...
Yes! That will make ME happy!
