I'm a woman who has been working in a male environment. Now I apply for jobs in the same environment, and I've done it before. Looking back I remember what my findings were last time I was looking for a job many years ago. My conclusion back then was that women want to hire me, but men don't!
Women tend to understand that I'm not into bragging, simply because women typically don't brag. They understand that I'm an intelligent person who is ambitious and can learn new things. They can relate to themselves, since they were also ambitious already at school, and they also have difficulties to brag. It seems they see beyond the words.
The managers are often men. They look for specific experiences both when it comes to specific technologies and specific roles. They expect people to brag and even lie to convince them. I'm a woman. I'm open. I'm not bragging and I would never tell a lie. It seems even when I have the relevant experience, men don't see that even when I try to tell them. And if don't convince them I don't get the job.
I need to look for female managers, because I need a woman to hire me!
